Ideation Before Solution:
Innovation Methods for Public Sector Leaders

North Cascades, Washington
June 23 - 29, 2026

Salt+Grit,

Welcome to the North Cascades.
Some call it “The American Alps”.
We call it a mecca for immersive
exploration and innovative thinking.

Join Salt+Grit in the North Cascades to gain results-driven innovation methods while immersing in an epic environment fostering creative thinking. Our Futures Lab Intensive is specifically designed for public sector leaders and organizations supporting social good initiatives.

The public sector faces daily complex challenges that demand innovative solutions, yet often lack access to the proven innovation methods that have transformed private industry. Our Futures Lab Intensive equips public sector change agents with a comprehensive toolkit of proven methods.

Salt+Grit does innovation differently.
We intentionally select extreme natural environments for our Intensives
because these spaces exponentially impact positive physiological responses
that are directly linked to increasing creative thinking.

In this Intensive, you will gain foundational knowledge in human-centered design and methodologies such as design-thinking and futures-thinking to ideate beyond conventional solutions. The private sector (especially disrupters!) use these approaches to unlock new possibilities. It’s time we apply these tools to the public sector for exponential impact.

You will learn the tools to design with intention, become more comfortable in the discomfort of the unknown, and begin to experience breakthroughs. At Salt+Grit we empower organizations and individuals to explore…and experience the possible.

Check-out

  • A collaborative, in-person collective of diverse individuals who gather in epic destinations to learn and practice innovative design methodologies. Participants will be guided, supported and challenged through the exploration, ideation, and design of new future scenarios.

  • I am tired of the conventional...in my work (or life), or perhaps in both. This is because conventional doesn't work...not well enough, anyway. I am a leader and a change-agent seeking methods and tools to strategically respond to disruption in the public sector. I am seeking a community that elevates my curiosity, widens my perspective, engages in ideation, and inspires me to expand your vision. I want to learn and practice using the tools and proven methodologies that will help me and my organization design beyond assumptions, fears, and...the conventional. I want to design a future that expands past anything I’ve already experienced. I are ready to deconstruct barriers, ideate possibilities, and design a more resilient and successful public sector future.

  • Natural environments are scientifically proven to regulate nervous systems, aid in the development of new neural pathways, increase creativity, and promote innovative thinking. The North Cascades is an ideal setting. I’ll be surrounded by towering peaks, old growth forests, crystal clear waters, and active glaciers. Salt+Grit's Wilderness Guide is ready to lead our cohort to views I could otherwise only experience by plane. This environment supports the reduction of stress and increase in ability to engage in creative breakthroughs.

  • I will gain expertise in human-centered design and the tools and methodologies, such as design- and futures-thinking, to ideate beyond conventional solutions. I will learn how to design with intention. I will become more comfortable in the discomfort of the unknown. I will begin to experience breakthroughs along with a cohort of other change-agents in the public sector. The Salt+Grit team will help empower me to explore and experience the possible.
